Centrally located on the East Coast of Vancouver Island — just 100 kilometres north of Victoria and only 55 kilometres across the Strait of Georgia from Vancouver — the Port of Nanaimo is a Federal agency whose mandate is to administer, control, manage and protect navigation and safety of the Nanaimo Harbour. The Port also acts as a facilitator in initiating and supporting ideas and events which stimulate economic growth for the community and, laterally, the Port.

• Cargo Facilities
  • Duke Point Terminal — The terminal is used for product exports, container handling, kaolin and salt discharge, fuel transfer and project cargo. One deep sea berth with a length of 170 m ( 558 ft) and depth alongside of 13.5 m (44 ft); line dolphins add 54 meters both north and south – 278 meters total length. The terminal is equipped with a 40 metric tonne container handling gantry crane and includes 6 ha (15 acres) of paved storage, 2 ha (10 acres) of unpaved storage.
  • Duke Point Multi Use Area — Adjacent to the Deep Sea Terminal is industrial zoned property available for lease and features lease lots ranging in size from 2 ha (5 acres) to 4 ha (10 acres) with access to the deep sea terminal an all development services. A 100-tonne barge ramp and short term staging property is available to users.
  • Duke Point Barge Ramp — Accommodates vessels of 87 meters (286 feet) LOA; breadth of 23 meters (76 feet); displacement load is 8,000 metric tonnes; dimensions: 100 x 20 feet at 100 metric tonnes.
  • Nanaimo Assembly Wharf — Two deep sea berths, ‘B’ and ‘C’ that are 200 m in length with depth alongside of 12.4 m (40.7ft) (NAW ‘B’) & 11.7 m (38 ft) (NAW ‘C’) respectively. The terminal has 27 acres of paved storage space, bonded warehouse storage and 24-hour on-site security including video monitoring. A full range of cargo handling equipment is available.

  • Nanaimo’s Port Authority operates two marinas with over 7,000 feet of moorage. The inner Boat Basin provides space for small to medium commercial and pleasure boats, secured with locked gates from 2300 to 0700hrs. Larger vessels are allocated space on W.E. Mills Landing & Marina, formerly known as the Visiting Vessel Pier and Cameron Island Marina.
