March 13, 2026 — In order to make more diverse use of the port space and provide the public with an additional leisure destination, the Hualien Port Branch of the Taiwan Port Corporation officially launched the “Hualien Port Water Recreation Area” to attract investment, inviting private businesses to settle in and operate, and transforming the port’s historic warehouses and old signal towers into a new field that combines tourism, dining, leisure and culture.
Hualien Port is located in the city center, close to the train station, city and airport, with convenient transportation, and is backed by mountains and facing the sea, with a vast Pacific Ocean view, making it an excellent location for the development of port tourism. The key areas released this time include warehouses No. 1 to 4 in the waterfront recreation area and the old signal station with good visibility, hoping to introduce long-term operators to jointly inject new vitality into the port area.
The water-friendly recreation area covers an area of about 4.12 hectares, close to popular attractions such as Pacific Park, General’s Mansion, and Meilun Mountain Trail, with rich tourism resources and highly anticipated commercial potential. The warehouse in the recreation area has a complete building structure and great space flexibility, and can be planned into themed shopping malls, specialty restaurants, cafes, art and cultural exhibition spaces, tourism service centers or other leisure facilities according to needs; In addition, some warehouses have completed the change of their licenses to B2 commercial categories, which can be used for wholesale, exhibition or commercial transactions, which will help accelerate subsequent investment promotion and operation planning, with spacious squares and parking spaces, and are also suitable for holding markets, music events or large-scale outdoor events.
In addition, the old signal tower located on a high ground covers an area of about 0.12 hectares, with a wide view of the harbor and sea view, making it very suitable for planning as a landscape restaurant, specialty café or hotel viewing and leisure space, creating a representative port landmark.
