May 4, 2026 — On April 29, the first “Sustainable Development Strategy Committee” was held, and experts and scholars in the fields of transportation and logistics, ports, tourism, environment, and finance were appointed by the port company as members.
The convener, Chairman Zhou Yonghui of the Taiwan Port Corporation, said that in 2023, the Taiwan Port Corporation established a three-tier structure for sustainable governance, including the “Sustainable Development Strategy Committee” at the advisory level, the “Sustainable Development Promotion Committee” at the planning level, and the “Seven Working Groups” at the executive level. This year, for the first time, the 2030 Sustainable Development Blueprint is used as the framework to plan the direction of promotion, and experts and scholars from various fields are invited to provide suggestions and consultations for the sustainable development of Taiwan’s port cluster.
Chairman Zhou Yonghui explained that the committee invited Feng Zhengmin, professor emeritus of the Department of Transportation and Logistics Management at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Sang Guozhong, professor of the Department of Transportation Science at National Taiwan Ocean University, Qiu Bingqian, head of the Department of Finance and Finance at National Pingtung University, Zhang Huangzhen, vice president of the Business Development Research Institute, Lin Yuexiu, the third president of the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism, and other heavyweight external experts from industry and academia to serve as committee members to provide professional advice on corporate governance (G), environment (E) and society (S). Through cross-disciplinary views and professional consultation, we assist Taiwan Port Corporation in refining its sustainable governance mechanism and sustainable development strategy.
At this time, corporate governance is particularly important, with legal compliance and risk control being the two key focuses. In response to the declining birthrate, we have established a talent recruitment and training mechanism and improved employee capabilities through professional and cross-domain competency training, while working with suppliers to enhance overall operational resilience and sustainable value. In terms of the port city’s co-prosperity tourism development strategy, the port, as a sustainable value driver, has created a high spillover effect on the city’s tourism economy by introducing cruise passengers and introducing the concept of green tourism. In addition, in addition to the continuous promotion of mechanisms related to energy conservation and carbon reduction, the port company has promoted a co-governance mechanism that takes into account both development and conservation between port development and ecological maintenance. Sustainable development is an issue of active global concern, requiring considerable resources to invest in all three aspects of ESG, and the benefits are difficult to present in the short term.
Chairman Zhou Yonghui emphasized that the port company has gradually improved its corporate governance mechanism, climate change response, net-zero transformation planning, environmental and ecological conservation, port and city co-prosperity, and workplace safety, and integrated sustainability concepts into port operations and decision-making processes. The port company will continue to integrate internal and external professional opinions through the Sustainable Development Strategy Committee, improve sustainable governance, and move towards the sustainable development vision of a low-carbon, co-prosperous, and resilient port, helping the Taiwan Port Corporation become a landmark sustainable port enterprise.
