April 1, 2026 — With the aim of strengthening environmental conservation and restoring key ecosystems in the region, ASIPONA Lázaro Cárdenas carried out a reforestation day in the “El Manglito” Ecological Urban Park, where 6,000 mangrove units were planted.
The event, led by ASIPONA, included the participation of environmental authorities, representatives of the port sector, as well as companies and institutions committed to sustainability, including the Secretariat of the Navy, UNAPROP, SECMA and SEMARNAT, Customs, CONAGUA, PROFEPA, Parks and Gardens, Tourism, the City Hall Ecology Department, in addition to companies such as APM Terminals, Hutchison Ports LCT, LC Logistics, TPP, SSA, Grupo Fertinal and Carbonser, Poseidon. Students from the Technological Institute of Lázaro Cárdenas and the Polytechnic University also participated, among other important organizations that contributed to the development of this activity.
On behalf of the Director General, Retired Admiral Heliodoro Álvarez Hernández, attendees were welcomed, highlighting the importance of joining efforts between government, private initiative and society for the restoration of coastal ecosystems.
Also, Ms. Aglaen Carbajal Navarro, Head of the Biodiversity Department at the Ministry of the Environment (SECMA), attended on behalf of Dr. Alejandro Méndez López, reiterating the institutional commitment to the protection of biodiversity in the state.
During the workshop, biologist Neftalí Mendoza Cárdenas, from the company ECOP Ecología, Consultoría y Desarrollo, provided a detailed explanation of the mangrove planting process, ensuring that participants acquired the necessary knowledge to correctly plant the trees and guarantee the success of this reforestation effort.
With actions like this, ASIPONA Lázaro Cárdenas strengthens its commitment to environmental stewardship, promoting initiatives that contribute to the recovery of strategic ecosystems and the sustainable development of the region.
