Kaohsiung Port’s Penghu Cruise Terminal officially opened; International Travel Center to be completed by 2026

The Penghu area is an important part of the Executive Yuan’s “Ten-year Blue Highway Overall Development Plan”. Today, the port company cooperates with the government’s outlying island development planning policy. In order to effectively attract international cruise passengers to stop in Penghu for in-depth tourism, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications made advance arrangements to successively invest during the epidemic. 2.5 billion yuan will be used to first promote the construction and optimization of relevant passenger service facilities in Penghu Port. In April this year, the extension project of Magong Port Pier 1 was completed (with a total cost of 829 million yuan). The pier was extended from the original length of 190 meters to 380 meters. The water depth has been deepened from -6 meters to -10 meters, significantly increasing the berthing capacity of cruise ships from 50,000 gross tons to 150,000 tons of large cruise ships.

In response to the increase in the capacity of berthing cruise ships, in order to provide convenient and modern customs clearance facilities for international tourists, an international cruise travel center is also planned to be built in the hinterland behind Pier 1 (with a project budget of 631 million yuan), which will also be held today (25th) The ground-breaking ceremony is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2015. After opening, the space for passenger waiting, customs clearance, leisure and shopping will be greatly optimized.

Wang Jinrong, executive deputy general manager of the port company, introduced the future port construction and investment plans of Penghu Commercial Port to the distinguished guests in rich content, demonstrating Penghu Port’s confidence in comprehensively developing cruise ships, passenger ships, leisure and tourism. Chairman Li Xianyi of the Port Management Company further explained: “The Port Management Company has always regarded local and port development as common important goals. Magong Port is the most important gateway for Penghu Islands and island hopping for sightseeing and recreation. The Port Management Company will continue to strengthen port resources to increase passenger and freight service capacity. , improve the service level of passenger and freight facilities, create a new image of Penghu for comfortable tourism and maritime recreation, and improve the port operating environment.”

Minister Wang of the Ministry of Transport said that Penghu’s special geographical location gives Penghu unique cultural development and maritime tourism scenery, which is an international standard.
