October 30, 2025 — The Port of Lázaro Cárdenas hosted a visit from a delegation of more than 30 members of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mexico, a meeting that took place as part of the promotional strategies promoted by the Lázaro Cárdenas Port Promotion Subcommittee.
The visit aimed to strengthen trade and cooperation ties between the two countries, as well as to showcase the operational, logistical and infrastructure capabilities that the port offers for international trade.
During the welcome meeting, Retired Vice Admiral Heliodoro Álvarez Hernández, Director General of ASIPONA Lázaro Cárdenas, led the activities and highlighted the importance of the port as a strategic platform for import and export in the Asia-Pacific region.
Likewise, Engineer Bonfilio Vega Torres, Deputy Director of Customs in Lázaro Cárdenas, explained the customs clearance and import process, outlining the mechanisms that guarantee efficiency and security in the movement of goods.
During his remarks, Mr. Takashi Kawano, President of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mexico, stated: “Japan has been a reliable partner of Mexico, with whom we have built an alliance based on trust, stability, and mutual benefit.”
The session allowed for direct dialogue between the Chamber’s representatives and key players in the logistics chain, resolving doubts and exchanging ideas on opportunities for future collaboration.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured the port facilities, where they were able to closely observe the operation and infrastructure of the main terminals, including APM Terminals, Hutchison Ports and SSA Mexico, confirming the technological capacity and level of service that characterize the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas.
The visit reaffirms the commitment of the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas to the promotion of international trade, personalized attention to users and the consolidation of strategic alliances that drive the country’s economic development.
