November 26, 2024 — Trans Mountain is proud to launch its inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) today, representing our long-term commitment to building stronger, more respectful partnerships with Indigenous Peoples along our pipeline and marine corridor. This milestone marks a significant step in Trans Mountain’s journey toward reconciliation, one that involves every one of us and will shape the future of our organization and the communities we serve.
A Collaborative and Thoughtful Process
Trans Mountain’s RAP reflects extensive engagement with Indigenous Peoples, as well as with our employees and contractors. Beginning in the summer of 2023, we hosted a series of engagement sessions designed to create a safe and open space for dialogue. These sessions focused on listening to the voices of Indigenous Peoples, understanding their unique needs and aspirations, and fostering honest conversations about the challenges they face, particularly those related to oil and gas operations within their territories.
We also brought together employees and contractors to discuss how we can support and engage more meaningfully with Indigenous communities, with a special focus on addressing the barriers that Indigenous Peoples face in the energy industry.
In December 2023, we published our What We Heard Report, which captured the key themes and insights from these discussions. This foundational document guided the development of our RAP and our six core pillars: Governance, Education, Employment, Community Engagement, Economic Empowerment and Environmental and Social Impact.
A Commitment to Lasting Change
The work Trans Mountain has accomplished to date, combined with the deep insights shared by Indigenous Peoples and our employees, has set the stage for a sustainable and prosperous future. We recognize that reconciliation is a multi-faceted journey and our RAP will evolve as we continue to listen, learn and adapt.
While we are proud of the foundation we’ve built, we know there is still much more work to be done. The commitments in our RAP reflect the values of respect, partnership and shared prosperity. We are focused on creating long-term benefits for Indigenous communities, but equally important is our responsibility to ensure that these efforts extend beyond the present and into future generations.
As we move forward with the launch of our inaugural RAP, we are laying the groundwork for a lasting legacy of respect and partnership. Together, we will create a future where Indigenous communities along our pipeline and marine corridor are not just consulted but are partners in every sense of the word. We are committed to driving change, fostering inclusivity and ensuring that our work reflects the value of reconciliation in everything we do.
