November 12, 2025 — The Administration of the National Port System of Puerto Chiapas is pleased to receive for the first time the majestic cruise ship Emerald Princess, of the renowned shipping company Princess Cruises, thus marking its inaugural arrival at this port terminal.
Coming from Puntarenas, Costa Rica, and bound for Bahías de Huatulco, Oaxaca, the Emerald Princess cruise ship arrived with 2,904 passengers and 1,130 crew members, who enjoyed the hospitality and warmth that distinguish the Soconusco region.

During the welcome ceremony, the exchange of representative plaques between port authorities and the cruise ship crew took place, symbolizing the friendship and cooperation between the shipping company Princess Cruises and Puerto Chiapas.
The event was attended by Vice Admiral Ret. Mateo Arzate Loza, General Director of ASIPONA Puerto Chiapas, who expressed to the captain of the cruise ship, Johnathan Edward Baranski, that this Administration reaffirms its permanent commitment to the safety, efficiency and operational quality of the port terminal.
He also stressed that, aware of the importance of maintaining international standards, ASIPONA Puerto Chiapas continuously carries out maintenance and dredging actions, guaranteeing safe navigation channels and the conservation of port infrastructure, offering optimal conditions for vessels arriving at this destination.
As part of this welcome, the Municipality of Acapetahua presented a gastronomic, artisanal and cultural exhibition, accompanied by marimba music and colorful folkloric dances. Similarly, the Children’s Folkloric Group of Ixtitlán, Puerto Madero, participated with emotional presentations that reflected the pride and cultural richness of our region.
This arrival is of great importance for Puerto Chiapas, since Princess Cruises is one of the shipping companies with the largest presence in our port, projecting 12 arrivals for the 2026 season.
The arrival of international cruise ships boosts tourism and generates an important economic spillover in the commercial, artisanal and service sectors of the region, consolidating Puerto Chiapas as a key tourist destination in the Mexican South Pacific.
