January 1, 2026 — As of January 1, 2026, Harbour Quay Marina has officially been renamed Alberni Lighthouse Marina. The new name reflects a natural and familiar fit, inspired by the iconic lighthouse that serves as a local landmark and trusted wayfinder in the Alberni Harbour. For decades, it’s been how boaters and locals alike describe the marina’s location—now the name makes it official.
Located in downtown Port Alberni on Harbour Road, adjacent to Port Authority terminals, Alberni Lighthouse Marina offers a welcoming recreational moorage experience just steps from the heart of the waterfront at Harbour Quay. Visitors are within easy walking distance of shops, galleries, dining, community gathering spaces, and the Alberni Pacific Railway.
Alberni Lighthouse Marina sits alongside the lighthouse pier, recognized for its distinctive replica West Coast lighthouse—home to the Maritime Heritage Discovery Centre and Hutchison Gallery, operated by the Maritime Heritage Society on Port Authority lands.
Owned by the Port Alberni Port Authority, the marina features 15 individual berths and more than 2,000 lineal feet of side-tie moorage. All berths include access to potable water and electrical service. Reservations are required, and overnight parking is available. Fuel is available nearby at Tyee Landing, with a sani-dump station located at Fishermen’s Harbour. Additional amenities include washrooms, showers, laundry, and a secure access system. Overlooking the marina, the boardroom is a valued community asset, providing an inviting meeting space for local groups and organizations.
The Alberni Lighthouse Marina’s breakwater provides a front-row seat for the community to views vessels, wildlife, and enjoy the action on the inlet. Fishing from the breakwater is welcome and encouraged. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or enjoying a family outing, it’s a great place to cast a line and soak up the waterfront atmosphere. Anglers are reminded to fish safely, wear life jackets, hold a valid licence, and follow all DFO regulations.
The marina is home to popular community events such as Port Day and the Alberni Valley Lions’ Children’s Bullhead Fishing Derby. It also offers a prime vantage point for waterfront celebrations, including the annual holiday Sail Past.
This iconic location connects visitors and residents to the deep maritime history and vibrant future of Port Alberni’s harbour. For more information about Alberni Lighthouse Marina, please contact the Port Alberni Port Authority.
