April 10, 2026 — In an act that marks a watershed in the transformation of the port, this Administration of the Acapulco National Port System, S.A. de C.V. carried out the Signing Ceremony of the Contract of Partial Assignment of Rights and Obligations corresponding to the Integral Tourism Project, held at the dock section 1 of the port area.
The ceremony formalized the alliance between this Port Administration and the company Global Ports Holding Limited (GPH), a leading operator worldwide in the development and management of cruise terminals, with a presence in various countries and strategic ports at an international level. As a result of the Public Tender Tender ASIPONA/ACAPULCO/PROYECTO-TURISTICO-INTEGRAL/01/25, the company was awarded for the development of the project, making Acapulco its first point of operation in Mexico, marking a milestone in its expansion process in the country. Headed by its Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Mehmet Kutman, GPH has a strong track record in the modernization and operation of tourism port infrastructure, which reinforces confidence in the implementation of this strategic project.
The event was attended by Kerem Seckin, Senior Director of Strategy and M&A at Global Ports Holding Limited, and Mike Maura, Regional Director for the Americas and Director of the Nassau Cruise Terminal, who signed the contract. Representatives of the tourism sector at the state and municipal level were also present. Likewise, authorities from the three levels of government attended, as well as representatives of the maritime-port sector, as well as regulatory and security agencies linked to port operations.
This project represents one of the most relevant efforts for the modernization of the port, as it integrates a strategic vision aimed at strengthening the tourism infrastructure and consolidating Acapulco as a competitive destination within the international cruise market.
The project has its origin in the provisions of the Master Program for Port Development, as part of the strategy to strengthen the port’s tourism infrastructure. Based on this, this Port Administration issued a call for proposals aimed at companies interested in the development of the Integral Tourism Project, in which Global Ports Holding Limited (GPH) participated and, after the corresponding evaluation, was awarded for the execution of the project.
The contract signed contemplates the use of a strategic area within the port area, integrating four key components: the cruise terminal, a multipurpose warehouse, a plot of land in Breña and a new dock to receive new generation cruise ships. The project will be developed under a phased approach, considering the modernization and expansion of the cruise terminal, with the aim of improving operational capacity and passenger services; the construction of a new dock that will allow the reception of new generation vessels; as well as the development of a public recreation center with gastronomic areas and natural pools, conceived as a space for recreation and coexistence for both visitors and the local population.
These actions will increase the port’s operational capacity, improve the quality of the services offered and position Acapulco as a key point on international cruise routes.
Likewise, the project will contribute to the generation of jobs, the strengthening of the local economy and the attraction of new investments, consolidating an environment conducive to the sustained growth of the port.
The participation of a company with global experience such as Global Ports Holding Limited represents a strategic element to guarantee the correct execution of the project, as well as the implementation of international standards in port operation. In this sense, in conjunction with this Port Administration, it is contemplated to strengthen the promotion of the port at an international level through participation in specialized forums of the sector, such as Seatrade Cruise Global 2026 in Miami, where the Integral Tourism Project already formalized will be presented.
The signing of this contract not only strengthens the port’s infrastructure, but also promotes a comprehensive vision of development that articulates efforts between the public and private sectors, for the benefit of the destination’s competitiveness.
With this type of action, decisive progress is made in the consolidation of Acapulco as a benchmark in tourism and ports, capable of responding to the demands of the global environment and generating new opportunities for the region.
Finally, this Administration of the Acapulco National Port System reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting strategic projects that strengthen the comprehensive development of the port, by attracting investment, modernizing its infrastructure and coordinating with the different sectors.
