Eight Bells: Captain Jeffrey Monroe, MM, CME, AMPE

May 14, 2025 — It is with a heavy heart that we are sharing the news of the passing of Captain Jeffrey Monroe, MM, CME, AMPE, our Director of Education and Training. Jeff passed peacefully on the evening of Tuesday, 13 May 2025 surrounded by his family. Jeff was a passionate educator and a superb mentor, enriching the lives of the professionals that he interacted with. He was accomplished in all his endeavors, which included teaching students at SUNY Maritime College and Massachusetts Maritime, leading ports in Boston and Portland (Maine), serving as an Anglican priest, consulting with ports on their growth and development, teaching port professionals with IAMPE, and as a master mariner. This last is where our subject line comes from: in the days of sailing ships, when a mariner’s watch was ending, eight bells were rung. We will carry on Jeff’s legacy of passionate education and enriching professional development to serve the port industry that Jeff served for so long. Please join us in wishing his loved ones and friends our sincere condolences as they, and we, grieve.
