October 17, 2025 — The Port Authority of Guam is launching Port Week 2025 to mark the 50th anniversary of Port Strong, a celebration of the people whose grit, resilience, and service fuel local and regional economies, strengthen partnerships, and support national security.
Established as an autonomous agency in 1975, Guam’s commercial seaport has grown from modest facilities into the island’s lifeline, maintaining operations through typhoons and global disruptions while supporting Indo-Pacific readiness. Port Week honors that legacy and looks ahead to the next chapter with a focus on reliability, safety, innovation, and partnership. On June 17, 2002, Public Law 26-106 was passed renaming the Port to the Jose D. Leon Guerrero Commercial Port.
The week begins with an official Opening Ceremony at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the Port, where Acting Governor Josh Tenorio will deliver the keynote address. As part of Port Week, the Maritime Resilience & Innovation Summit will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Guam, featuring a keynote by Port of Long Beach Harbor Commissioner Sharon L. Weissman. The Summit will also include remarks by Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero, Lt. Governor Joshua F. Tenorio, Association of Pacific Ports President Conchita S.N. Taitano, Senator Jesse Lujan, and Port Authority of Guam General Manager Rory J. Respicio. The celebration concludes on Saturday, October 25, 2025, with the Grand Finale and Employee Recognition Ceremony at Leo Palace Resort Guam. Throughout the week, employees and partners will also take part in sporting events and a community roadside cleanup that reflects the Port’s commitment to service beyond the waterfront.
“Port Week is a salute to the people who keep Guam supplied and our region moving,” said Rory J. Respicio, General Manager of the Port Authority of Guam. “As we celebrate fifty years of Port Strong, I thank Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio, our Board of Directors, and our Port Strong employees for their leadership, support, and dedication to the mission and to the community we serve every day.”
This 50th anniversary celebration highlights the Port’s enduring role as Guam’s gateway and a Strategic Port partner, while emphasizing the people-first culture that keeps vessels turning and goods flowing for families, businesses, and the defense community. Event updates, summit details, and registration information will be posted on the Port’s official channels.
